Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared in film and TV, and on stage, is most well-known for portraying Teri Joseph, a flamboyant attorney featured in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since the age of five and was awarded a Best Actress award in a Maryland high-school competition. In the years following her involvement in acting and in "The Washington Ballet Company" She was awarded an acting degree at the New York University. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She was already exposed to numerous travel experiences and different cultures at a very early age. She attended boarding schools at the age between 7 and 9 years old in London. Later her family moved back to Toronto (Canada) where they spent her entire childhood. Contractor was a wonderful student in Toronto and educated to become an expert ballet dancer. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school in which she studied not just dance but also drama. When she was 16, after nearly 10 years of dance Contractor realized she wanted to pursue acting seriously. Upon graduating from high school she received a full-time award to Toronto's University of Toronto, where she earned a master's degree in theater and a dual major in sociology and psychology. Contractor was given the lead character in Pericles following her one year stay at the University. The audition was held for the role during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. The 92 productions she performed received acclaim from Canadian critics. She was offered the opportunity to join Stratford Conservatory. The school allows only eight males and four women to study the art of classical theatre. Contractor was eager to accept. Contractor's place in the following production was secured, and she won the role as Hermia.
